Hi, just wanted to say hi and I would love to get 2 know u better.

Reply if you want to talk :)
I almost deleted this unread on the grounds that it was probably spam. It appears not to be, but isn't going to get answered, either. Why? Because the person didn't tell me who they are. The email address was not a real name and they didn't tell me anything about themselves. They didn't tell me where they got my address or why they might want to "get 2 know u". They didn't even give me any conversational opening so if I wanted to answer I have no idea what sort of thing to say to them. And on top of all that, they tripped my annoying spelling peeve. I try to overlook such abbreviations from people I know and care about, but from strangers it immediately makes me twitch.

I have an appontment this morning at 10:30 for the house inspection that I've had to reschedule twice (due to forgetting about the previous appointments and just jaunting off to work as usual), so I'm at home. I went to the Subaru dealer first thing and got my car's oil changed for the first time: at 5500 miles. I've had the car about 3 1/2 months and it's already got nearly 6000 miles on it. I haven't even gone anywhere except back and forth to work, but my commute is a 50 mile round trip every day.

So I'm at home again, and I decided to cook myself breakfast, now that I've been up for two hours and some. I made scrambled eggs with onions, black pepper, and feta cheese, and fried them in olive oil. It's an interesting combination of flavors. I think I like it but I'm not quite sure.

I am duly inspected and will get an occupancy permit shortly. He's not going to cite me for anything on the interior, but had a list of minor stuff that needs fixed. His biggest issue was that I have to get the smoke detectors working. All of them are disconnected because they have a habit of going off when I'm cooking dinner or, and especially annoying, when I'm taking a shower. I guess I like really hot water.
I'll get a letter about a few things on the exterior, some of which I've already got fixes in progress for, like the basement door.

Yes, I use the name for a reason. :-) It was about ten years ago that I ordered the two-volume Chronicles of Amber from the SFBC as one of my initial book selections. I read them and fell in love, and bought each new Merlin book as it was published. I remember every time I went into a bookstore I'd go straight for the Z section in hopes of finding a new Amber book. It wasn't long before I was casting around for an online handle to use, and settled on "Fiona" as my favorite of the characters from my favorite books. Years later, when I finally got online again, I remembered my old handle and resurrected it. Shortly after, I received an email from Elissa: "Hi, you're my mommy!" and we started roleplaying random scenes. Eventually a group formed and began playing an organized campaign, which has now been going on for five years. Over those five years, I have started using "Fiona" as my name in more and more contexts. At this point only people at work and people who have known me longer than about three years call me anything else.
