Oct. 7th, 2006 08:03 amCan't believe I'm up already. It's Saturday morning, after a late night at Archon and an even later fourthmeal at the Freaky Diner, not to mention a very late Thursday night as well, and I'm up at 7:30. I have to go get blood drawn at 9:30 for a progesterone level test to determine whether or not I ovulated this month.
Then dash to Archon for GRRM's 10:00 reading, of which I'll doubtless miss the first half. After that, time to get made up for my costume. Tammie had an inspiration at the thrift shop Thursday evening: I'm doing the Corpse Bride. Unfortunately I didn't remember that the hall costume judging occurs on Friday, and she and I just wore saris yesterday. Chris, on the other hand, got completely done up in his Feegle regalia (with a lot of help from me,
scottak, and Tammie). He got more double-takes and questions...and a hall costume award! He says, "If I knew all I had to do to get a hall costume ribbon was come naked, I'd have done that long ago!"
I am shocked and dismayed to learn how few con-goers have heard of Terry Pratchett! A couple of people made him as a Feegle immediately, but most asked, "William Wallace, I presume?" or just "What are you?!?" Upon explanation, about 80% of the questioners showed no sign of awareness of Pratchett or Discworld. Not even, oh I've heard of that; just a blank look. I'd have expected more of "Really? Which book?" The worst was "Is that a TV show?" *eyeroll*
