The Japanese word for family is 家族 (kazoku): it breaks apart as something like house-clan. And may I note: what would forgetful Japanese students (i.e., students of Japanese) such as myself do without Jim Breen's WWWJDIC?

Date: 2005-12-03 03:00 am (UTC)I'm pretty sure that's the ideographic symbol that represents the concept of "gate" or doorway. (When shown by itself, not necessarily as a 'compound-word' with some of the other radical characters surrounding it.)
