New Year's Eve we did a bit of a ritual. Last year (2016) we had burned calendars to banish the badness of 2016. Since 2017 was even worse on the global and national scale, I felt calendars weren't enough. So we made a fire in our fire pit, despite the frigid temperatures, and burned three batches of items. I printed a bunch of paper representations for each.

Batch 1: Banish
Misogyny
Racism
Rape Culture
DJT (Quote: "Am I really intentionally looking for photos of [you-know-who]?" Quote2: "He is a tiny little man, I am printing him at 25% scale. Also, he doesn't deserve that much of my color ink")
Pence
+ lavender for cleansing (we didn't have any sage on hand and Tammie says lavender works too)

Batch 2: Release and remember
Lost loves
Lost friends
Penny
Old job
+ rosemary for remembrance

Batch 3: Invite and welcome
New job
Marriage
New friends
New loves
Peace
Justice
Love
Creativity
+ boxwood and holly for growth (they're evergreen)

I don't remember, there may have been a few other things in the banishment category, and I didn't see what Rosa or Tammie put in.

We burnt each package of items and chanted the words three times. Afterward, we roasted marshmallows over the fire for the feasting phase of the ritual.

On a personal level 2017 really hasn't been too bad. Not like the severe depression that characterized 2016 for me. I've been emotionally stable and content.

However, I would like to invoke some things for 2018. Particularly I want to be more active physically, and fannishly as well. I want to be more productive with podfic, and to get back into knitting. I want to read more; reading has been sporadic this last year. Some months I've read tons, and other months almost nothing. I'd like to post here more often.
